Athletes and delegates at the Rio 2016 Olympics will be treated by doctors from the Brazilian Medical Association.

Nearly 70 doctors in a range of specialities will be on hand for daily polyclinic walk-in sessions during the Olympic and Paralympic Games, rio2016.com said on Saturday, reports Xinhua.

"The Brazilian Medical Association is a very well-respected institution," Joao Grangeiro, chief medical officer for the Rio 2016 Committee, said on Saturday.

"Its members are outstanding professionals and teachers in different areas of medicine. This technical and scientific support is part of Rio 2016's commitment to create a panel of specialists to guarantee the best medical care for athletes and delegates."

The Rio 2016 Games, to be held from August 5 to 21 next year, will be the first Olympics in South America.
