A local RLSP leader was shot dead on Monday in Bihars Vaishali district, triggering angry protests by residents who went on a rampage forcing police to open fire and injuring several demonstrators.
Manish Sahni, the Prakhand Pramukh of Jandaha block, was targeted by unidentified men in broad daylight in the premises of the block office. Sahni was from the RLSP, whose top leader Upender Kushwaha is a Union Minister.
Angry over the murder, residents attacked the block office, damaged public property and set ablaze the police station.
The police then opened fire to disperse protesters, injuring seven people, police sources said.
RLSP is part of the ruling NDA, Kushwaha said he was shocked by killing of his colleague.
