Hollywood director Rupert Sanders has reportedly been roped in to helm the big screen adaptation of Masamune Shirow's classic sci-fi Japanese comic "Ghost in the Shell".
Known for his directorial venture "The Snow White and the Huntsman", the director has teamed up with the DreamWorks for the adaptation, reports online magazine Deadline.
Created by Masamune Shirow, "Ghost in the Shell" was first published in 1989 by Kodansha, one of the largest publishing companies in Japan. The comic was famously adapted as an animated film in 1995, and later as the acclaimed "Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex" TV series.
It centres around a cyborg police officer living in the near future and explores the concept of consciousness and humanity.
"The Reluctant Fundamentalist" fame William Wheeler is writing the script, while Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Steven Paul are co-producing it.
Meanwhile, Sanders is also involved with other projects "90 Church", "Juliet" and, "The Kill List". If the reports are to be believed, he will also helm a biopic on French military leader Napoleon Bonaparte.
