The Russian city of Khanty-Mansiysk (western Siberia) will host the 2020 World Chess Olympiad, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, President of the World Chess Federation (FIDE), confirmed on Tuesday.
"Congratulations to Khanty-Mansiysk. It beat such countries as Argentina and Slovakia in the fight for the right to host the Chess Olympiad," Ilyumzhinov said, reports Tass.
Speaking on the development, Governor of Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Area, Natalya Komarova said the town will hold the best chess Olympiad in history.
"We were preparing for the FIDE Congress where our bid was presented very seriously. We did our utmost to make sure that our bid is accepted. I am confident we will be able to hold the best chess Olympiad," Komarova said.
