French multinational Saint-Gobain Monday inaugurated its $185 million glass manufacturing unit in Rajasthan.
State Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje inaugurated the World Glass Complex at Bhiwadi, Alwar district.
The plant has a capacity to manufacture close to 1,000-tonne of glass per day and is a fully automated, futuristic (with state-of-the-art robotics), integrated glass facility.
The plant's location is strategic, for the entire glass market of north India can be optimally serviced from Bhiwadi. Further, being on the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, gives the plant significant logistics advantages.
Speaking on the occasion, Raje said the state government sees the companies which invest in Rajasthan as partners in growth and development.
She said France and Rajasthan were already partners in tourism since the largest number of European tourists visiting the state were from France.
Lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Make in India' campaign, she said: "Working together, industry and government can fulfil the prime minister's dream of the country being a manufacturing giant and in the process, further employment opportunities and economic growth."
Chairman and CEO of Saint-Gobain Pierre-Andre de Chalendar said despite global recession during the past few years, his company remained determined to complete the project of establishing Asia's biggest float glass complex.
Ambassador of France Francois Richier was also present on the occasion.
