Pharma company Sandu Pharmaceuticals was Monday issued a show cause notice by the state pollution control authority for causing water pollution at its manufacturing unit in the state.
Goa State Pollution Control Board member secretary Levinson Martins said the effluent treatment plant (ETP) installed at Sandu's state unit to manage effluents was not in proper working condition and in turn was causing water pollution near the unit.
The notice was issued after an inspection of the unit located at the Pilerne industrial estate, 10 km from the capital. It also gives the company seven days to respond, failing which the Goa pollution control panel would be "forced to withdraw (its) consent to operate under the Water Act".
