Eminent Sanskrit scholar Prabhu Nath Dwivedi has been conferred the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award for 2014 for his "Kanakalochanaha" collection of short stories, a statement said Wednesday.
The collection comprises of 16 short-stories that touch upon various social issues eroding the system.
"This is my fourth collection. I have previously written three books. But all of them are based on the issues that are prevalent in the society," Dwivedi told IANS on the phone from Mirzapur.
Diwedi has been teaching in various universities for over three decades.
This book was selected by a three-member jury.
Other winners, announced in Dec, 2014 include poet and critic Adil Jussawalla, who won the award for his poetry book "Trying to Say Goodbye".
The winners will be given the award in March during the Festival of Letters being organised here by the Sahitya Akademi.
They will be honoured with an engraved copper plaque, a shawl and a cheque for Rs. 100,000.
