The Supreme Court on Monday rejected Sri Ram Sene chief Pramod Mutalik's plea challenging his ban on entering Goa, noting that he and his associates were indulging in "moral policing by entering the pubs and beating up the girls".
Throwing out Mutalik's plea challenging the state government order prohibiting his entry in the Goa, a bench of Chief Justice H.L.Dattu and Justice Amitava Roy said that he might have been barred from entering in order to "maintain peace".
Telling Mutalik that Goa Police would take care of its responsibility to maintain peace in the State, the court told him that "for the time being don't enter Goa. You are doing moral policing entering pubs and beating up girls".
Mutalik had challenged the July 2 Bombay High Court order rejecting his challenge to Goa government order banning his entry in the state.
The Sri Ram Sene chief, while contesting the prohibitory order, said that they were illegal, violative of his fundamental right and without jurisdiction and were passed repeatedly without affording him a hearing.
The first order barring Mutalik from entering Goa was passed on August 19, 2014 and since then it has been kept in force by repeated promulgation.
