The Supreme Court Wednesday reserved its order on a petition seeking the review of its verdict quashing the first information report (FIR) in the disproportionate assets case against former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati.
Petitioner Kalesh Verma pleaded that the court should revisit its order quashing the FIR against BSP supremo Mayawati in the disproportionate assets case, and the CBI should be allowed to continue its investigations.
The review petition was heard by Justice P. Sathashivam and Justice Dipak Misra in the open court.
The Supreme Court on July 6, 2012, quashed the Sep 18, 2003, FIR filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against Mayawati in a disproportionate assets case.
The apex court by the 2012 order quashed the 2003 FIR filed by the CBI in pursuance to its investigation into alleged disproportionate assets of the BSP supremo. It upheld Mayawati's contention that the FIR against her was mala fide, and misread the apex court's orders in Taj Corridor Case.
The court had said: "We finally conclude that anything beyond the Taj Corridor matter was not the subject matter of reference before the Taj Corridor bench."
