The government on Tuesday said it would double the number of scholarships under the National Talent Search scheme.

The number of scholarships would be doubled to 2,000 from the existing 1,000, Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani said on the occasion of the 55th foundation day celebration of the NCERT here.

Expressing concern about the quality of school education, Irani asked the NCERT director to undertake the national achievement survey for classes 3, 5, 8 and 10, annually.

She also desired that a roadmap be prepared and submitted to the HRD ministry within a week's time, an official release said.
