Home Minister Rajnath Singh said on Tuesday that a security audit of the CISF should take place every four months in order to detect the "faults" of the force and help in its improvement.

Addressing the 46th Raising Day of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) here, Rajnath Singh said: "In every four months, a special security audit should be done so that their (CISF) faults can be detected and the force can be made perfect."

He further said that the CISF, which is responsible for securing critical infrastructure installations in the country, had a pivotal role to play in thwarting terrorist attacks.

"Your core competence is necessary to diffuse terrorism," Rajnath Singh said while appreciating the undercover operations carried out by the force.

Set up in 1969 to provide security to public sector undertakings, the 1.4-lakh-strong CISF is today responsible for protecting nuclear installations, space establishments and airports as well as the Delhi Metro, among other critical installations.

The home minister also lauded the consultancy service provided by the CISF to government, semi-government and private establishments.

"I am happy to know the multidimensional role of CISF... It's great to know that the force has been providing anti-terror consultancy service to Infosys," he said.

The CISF has so far provided consultancy in security and fire fighting to 111 government, semi-government and private establishments.

After the Mumbai terrorist attack in November 2008, the mandate of the CISF was broadened to provide security cover to private establishments.

Presently the CISF has been providing security to five private establishments -- Electronic City Bengaluru, Reliance Refinery in Jamnagar and three establishments of Infosys (in Bengaluru, Mysore and Pune).
