Nigeriain police have beefed up security across the country to ensure crime-free Easter celebration.
The police begun a nationwide special security operation, including counter-terrorism sweeps, detailed overt and covert surveillance, and intelligence-driven raids, Xinhua quoted National police spokesperson Frank Mba as saying in a statement Friday .
The operation will also involve arms mop-up and special stop and search exercise, he added, noting that personnel involved in the exercise would be drawn from the Bomb Disposal Squad and Counter-Terrorism Units.
According to him, personnel would also be drawn from the Police Mobile Force and Joint Border Patrol Units, Force Intelligence Bureau, Police Dog Section and conventional police teams.
Mba said the officers are expected to pay special attention to motor parks, airports, seaports, border points, recreation parks, major markets and shopping malls, among others.
Nigeria has been rocked by a series of attacks this week, including a bombing in Abuja Monday that left at least 75 people killed.
On Monday, unidentified gunmen attacked a secondary school in northeastern Borno state and kidnapped more than 100 students.
