A benchmark index of Indian equities markets gained 195.17 points or 0.93 percent in the pre-noon trade Thursday.
Good buying was observed in the metal and IT sectors while selling pressure was seen in the consumer durables sector.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 20,896.13 points, was trading at 21,090.11 points in the pre-noon session, up 195.17 points or 0.93 percent from the previous day's close at 20,894.94 points.
The Sensex touched a high of 21,109.08 points and a low of 20,866.88 points during trade so far.
The S&P BSE metal index surged by 167.06 points and IT index went up by 132.41 points. However, consumer durables index went down by 73.62 points.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also gained 63.30 points or 1.02 percent at 6,278.45 points.
