A planned march by separatists to the headquarters of the United Nations Military Observers Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) on Saturday was foiled before it could begin, police said.
Some middle-rung leaders and activists of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) assembled in Kokar Bazaar area, adjacent to city centre Lal Chowk, and to take out a march to the UNMOGIP in uptown Sonawar.
But police immediately swung into action and arrested some leaders and activists.
JKLF activists said the march was part of the ongoing separatist campaign to attract international attention to the Kashmir issue and the human rights violations in the state.
