Seven killed in China landslides

At least seven people were killed and 17 others injured on Wednesday in rain-triggered landslides in a county in Yunnan province in southwest China, the local publicity department said.

Changning county was hit by torrential rain from 2 a.m. to 1 p.m., causing landslides in the townships of Tianyuan and Mangshui. Initial reports put the number of missing at five, Xinhua reported.

The most recent confirmed fatality was at 4.10 p.m. on Friday, bringing the toll to seven.

Residents have been evacuated, disaster relief work continues, officials said.
