A Trinamool Congress MP Tuesday said "shame on" Justice A.K. Ganguly as he has not resigned as chairperson of the West Bengal rights panel following charges of sexual harassment against him.
Raking up the issue during the Rajya Sabha debate on the Lokpal bill, Trinamool Congress member Sukhendu Sekhar Roy asked why institutions such as administrative tribunals were headed only by judges.
He then referred to Ganguly's continuance as the chief of West Bengal Human Rights Commission.
"Shame on him...because people will lose faith in institutions," said Roy.
Additional Solicitor General Indira Jaising Sunday revealed the affidavit of a law intern, unfolding the sequence of events that led to the levelling of charges of sexual harassment against Justice Ganguly.
The affidavit was submitted to the three-judge committee of the Supreme Court, which found him guilty of "unwelcome behaviour" towards the intern.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has urged President Pranab Mukherjee to remove Ganguly.
The ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal has been at the forefront of protests, seeking Ganguly's resignation, and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has twice written to the president urging action in the case.
Roy supported the Lokpal bill and said the bill should have been enacted earlier.
