The value of assets owned by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit grew over 40 percent in the last five years, to Rs.18 million, according to an affidavit submitted by her Thursday.

Chief minister candidate of the BJP Harsh Vardhan also declared the value of his movable and immovable assets -- Rs.4.8 million. He filed his nominations for Krishna Nagar constituency.

The three-time chief minister filed her nomination from New Delhi constituency for the Dec 4 assembly election.

Dikshit will seek re-election from her bastion, New Delhi.

According to the affidavit, the value of her movable and immovable assets increased from Rs.13 million in 2008 to Rs.18.3 million in 2013. Her total income for 2012-13 fiscal was Rs.1.3 million.

In her affidavit filed with the returning officer, Dikshit, who does not own a car, gave a break up of her assets.

She owns jewellery worth Rs.11 lakh. She has a house in south Delhi's up-scale Nizamuddin area with a current market value of Rs.9.8 million against its 2008 value -- Rs.6.3 million.

The chief minister has Rs.20,000 in cash, and deposits in banks, financial institutions and non-banking financial companies worth Rs.800,000.

The chief minister has also invested in various bonds, debentures and shares in government banks and private ones, the current market value of which is Rs.3.5 million.

She has invested over Rs.2 million in senior citizen's saving schemes and other financial instruments like LIC and Postal Savings.

Dikshit reached the divisional commissioner's office at Jamnagar House in central Delhi around 1 p.m. A large number of supporters had gathered to greet her.

Wearing a crimson sari, Dikshit had a tough time navigating her way to the office as photographers and supporters surrounded her.

It took her around an hour to complete the nomination process.

As she emerged, over 100 supporters waiting at the entrance of the divisional commissioner's office, began shouting slogans.

BJP leader Vijender Gupta also filed his nomination from New Delhi constituency. Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvinder has announced that he will contest from the same constituency.
