Comparing the life story of his former cabinet colleague Sushilkumar Shinde with that of India, President Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday said that the former Home Minister is an "inspiration" and a "shining example" of success for millions.
According to a release issued here, the President, who attended 75th birthday celebrations of Shinde at Maharashtra's Solapur, said that by overcoming the odds of an extremely humble background and various handicaps without bitterness, Shinde held highest positions in the country.
"This shows his steely mind, single-mindedness, courage and determination. His story is the story of India. India too has overcome many difficulties backwardness, illiteracy, disease and ignorance. It is the shining example of the success of Indian democracy. We must celebrate this strength. Shinde stands out as an inspiration for millions in our country," Mukherjee added.
