The union home ministry has issued show cause notice to around 10,300 associations registered under Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010 for not filing mandatory annual return, a statement said Wednesday.
"The defaulting associations are being asked to submit the proof of submission of returns within one month and in case they have not filed the returns, justification as to why there registration under FCRA, 2010 should not be cancelled," the ministry said in the statement.
These associations were accused of not filing mandatory annual return for 2009-2010, 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 financial years.
"In case no reply is received from the associations, action for cancellation of registration granted to the association will be initiated under the FCRA, 2010," it said.
According to the ministry, notice with the list of defaulting associations who have not filed the returns has been placed on the website of the ministry.
