Slain Delhi Police cop probed IPL spot-fixing

Slain Delhi Police inspector Badrish Dutt was among those probing the spot-fixing in IPL matches in which Indian fast bowler S. Sreesanth and 13 others have been arrested, sources said Thursday.

The case was cracked by the Delhi Police Special Cell Wednesday when raids were conducted in Delhi, Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

Sources said Dutt, who was shot dead May 11, was a part of the team that intercepted the phone records of the Indian Premier League (IPL) players and bookies.

"Dutt was a team member of Delhi Police who had an information about the spot-fixing, since two months," sources said.

Three Rajasthan Royals players S. Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan as well as 11 bookies were arrested on charges of spot-fixing in Indian Premier League matches.

Dutt, 45, and his friend Geeta Sharma were found shot dead at her flat in Gurgaon, Haryana May 11. The two had been living together for the past one year.

Twice awarded for gallantry, Dutt was instrumental in cracking several terror modules as well as criminal nexus.

"Dutt specialised in cracking terrorist modules. He had neutralised modules of several terrorists groups like Hizbul Mujahideen and Jaish-e-Mohammad," the official told IANS.

Dutt joined Delhi Police as a sub-inspector in 1991. He spent most of his career in Delhi Police's Special Staff and Special Cell, where he was posted since 1999.

An efficient officer, he got an out-of-turn promotion to inspector.
