The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday said the two militants killed in a gunfight at Tral in Pulwama district were involved in a series of sniper attacks on security forces.
Muhammad Usman, a Pakistani national and Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) chief Azhar Masood's nephew, was killed along with Kashmiri militant Showkat Ahmad on Tuesday.
Their bodies were recovered from the site of the encounter along with arms and ammunition including M4 and AK-47 rifles "and other incriminating material", a statement said.
A joint operation mounted by the Rashtriya Rifles, Special Operations Group of the police and the Central Reserve Police Force killed the two "involved in attacks on security forces from a distance".
