An army soldier and an intruding terrorist were killed on Wednesday when troops foiled an infiltration bid on the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
"An infiltration bid was foiled by our vigilant troops in Krishna Ghati sector of the LoC today (Wednesday)," said Colonel S.D.Goswami, defence spokesman of army's Udhampur-based Northern Command.
"Suspicious movement was noticed along the LoC in Krishna Ghati sector today and an operation was launched. A group of unidentified terrorists was spotted by the alert troops at 2 p.m. and they were immediately challenged, after which an encounter began," he said.
"One terrorist was killed while Lance Naik Govind attained martyrdom as he succumbed to critical injuries received during the operation," Colonel Goswami added.
The spokesman said the operation was still on in the area.
