Delhi's former law minister Somnath Bharti, accused in a domestic violence case filed by his wife Lipika Mitra, alleged on Monday that he was denied basic human rights by Delhi Police while in lock-up.

Bharti moved an application before Metropolitan Magistrate Manika to bring to the knowledge of the court the fact that he was denied basic human rights by police.

The court issued notice to the lock-up in-charge of Dwarka court and Tihar jail superintendent and sought their responses.

The Aam Aadmi Party legislator from Malviya Nagar constituency also requested the court for permission to write a letter to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal that his rights were being violated.

The court directed the jail superintendent to consider his plea.

Meanwhile, the court extended till October 19 his judicial custody after he was presented before it after expiry of his one-day custody.

Bharti has moved a bail application before a sessions court which will be heard on Tuesday.

Bharti surrendered to police last week. He was named in a FIR filed on September 10 following a June 10 complaint by his wife who said he had been abusing her since their marriage in 2010.
