Congress chief Sonia Gandhi Tuesday expressed her shock and grief at the death of senior party leader V.C. Shukla, party sources said.
According to the sources, Gandhi spoke to Shukla's family members on the phone.
She also instructed senior party leaders, including Motilal Vora, Digvijaya Singh, Mohsina Kidwai and Chhattisgarh in charge B.K. Hariprasad to reach Raipur where Shukla's last rites will be performed.
Shukla, 84, passsed away in a Gurgaon hospital Tuesday. He was being treated for bullet injuries sustained during a Maoist attack on a Congress convoy in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh May 25.
