South African held for raping Naga woman in Delhi

A 34-year-old South African has been arrested on charges of raping a woman from Nagaland on the pretext of marriage, police said Monday.

The 24-year-old woman filed a complaint against the accused, Nilengo, Sunday evening at Mukherjee Nagar police station in north Delhi.

The man was arrested and a case has been registered against him.

The woman, who worked as a beautician in Bangalore, had come in contact with the man through a social networking website in December 2013.

"Around four months ago, the woman came to Delhi when the man told her to come here to set up a business. She has been staying at a rented accommodation of the man since she arrived in Delhi," the official said.

Referring to the woman's statement, the official said she was sexually assaulted by the man many times.

"The man raped the woman on the pretext of marriage. When she got pregnant, he refused to marry her. He also used to beat the victim," the official said.
