A portion of the newly-renovated office of Uttar Pradesh's ruling Samajwadi Party collapsed here Friday night, officials and local residents said. Nobody was injured.
The party office at the posh Raj Nagar District Centre was renovated recently with ,its three rooms being converted into one big hall after removing the walls. A new balcony was constructed and it was this portion that collapsed.
"I was sitting on the front of my house RDC-5 adjacent to the party office at RDC-4. Suddenly the balcony portion came down heavily. Fortunately at that time the children were not playing outside the party office nor any person was there to take the water from the public hand pump outside the party office otherwise casualties could have occurred," said Mahendra Kumar Arora, a retired official who lives next door.
