Spain's acting Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy expressed his condolences on Thursday over the death of Dutch football legend Johan Cruyff, whom he considered a "legendary player and a tireless fighter".
In a message posted on Twitter, Rajoy wrote: "My deepest condolences to the family, colleagues and friends of Johan Cruyff, a legendary player and a tireless fighter. Rest in peace. MR."
The World of Johan Cruyff website also posted "On March 24 2016 Johan Cruyff (68) died peacefully in Barcelona, surrounded by his family after a hard-fought battle with cancer. It's with great sadness that we ask you to respect the family's privacy during their time of grief."
The Dutch soccer legend had been battling cancer since October, reports Efe.
