Spain defender Dani Carvajal is likely fit enough to appear in next month's 2018 FIFA World Cup, despite suffering from a minor right hamstring injury, according to a statement from Spain's national team on Monday.
The Real Madrid defender walked off the field in tears on Saturday during the first half of the Champions League final against Liverpool, but his participation in the World Cup, which kicks off June 14, still depends on the final decision of Spain coach Julen Lopetegui, reports Efe.
"Carvajal (is) to join the squad in training camp as part of his recovery," the statement said.
"Carvajal has undergone medical tests (MRI scan) this morning with his club and where the Spanish side medical staff were present. It has been determined he has injured muscle tissue on his right hamstring," it added.
Spain began training on Monday in preparation for its pre-World Cup friendlies against Switzerland on June 3 and Tunisia on June 9.
Carvajal had previously missed the UEFA 2016 Euro due to an injury he picked up during that year's Champions League final.
Spain is to start its World Cup journey on June 15 against Portugal, with both teams competing in Group B along with Iran and Morocco.
