Srinivasan attends BCCI disciplinary panel meet

The Indian cricket board's self-exiled president N. Srinivasan attended the disciplinary committee meeting here Friday that is to decide the fate of the Rajasthan Royals' players caught in the Indian Premier League (IPL) spot fixing scandal.

However, it is not clear in what capacity Srinivasan was attending the meet despite filing an affidavit in the Bombay High Court July 4 that he would return to the board chief's post only after the allegations of corruption during the IPL are fairly resolved.

When the spot fixing scandal broke out, Srinivasan stepped aside as the BCCI chief after his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan was arrested by Mumbai police allegedly for betting in the IPL.

The fate of Rajasthan Royals' players S. Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, who have been charge sheeted by Delhi Police in the scandal, is being discussed at the disciplinary panel meeting at a hotel here, following the report submitted by Anti-Corruption Unit chief Ravi Sawani to its working committee last month in Kolkata.

Sawani, a former chief of the International Cricket Council (ICC) anti-corruption unit, was asked to investigate the alleged involvement of the three players in conceding a pre-determined number of runs per over in exchange for money during the IPL.

Sawani's report is being scrutinised by BCCI vice-presidents Arun Jaitley and Niranjan Shah before a verdict is pronounced. The players may face life bans.

Sreesanth and Chavan arrived for the meeting in the morning. Harmeet Singh and Siddharth Trivedi, who failed to report that they were approached by bookies, were also questioned by the panel.
