The Home Ministry on Wednesday said the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) officers of the rank of Deputy Commandant and above will celebrate the 68th Republic Day on the border out posts in Jammu and Kashmir, Maoist-hit areas, India-Nepal and India-Bhutan borders.
According to the ministry, the SSB is taking such a step for first time on the personal initiative of the SSB Director General Archana Ramasundaram.
Ramasundaram said a healthy relationship with the troops deployed on the borders will be established when the Deputy Commandants and other higher officers of sector and frontier headquarters as well at SSB headquarters in New Delhi celebrate the Republic Day with them.
"This national celebration should be held in a manner to ensure better relationship between border population and SSB personnel so as to strengthen national unity and integrity.
The idea behind this initiative is also to establish direct communication between the officers posted at headquarters and the jawans posted in remote locations," Ramasundaram said.
She said it will help senior officers appreciate the problems of jawans and instil confidence in them that the DG and the frontier headquarters are sensitive towards their problems and are making all-out efforts to provide them better facilities.
The SSB chief called upon the force personnel to follow the SSB motto of "service, security and brotherhood" and strive for security of the border population.
