Stove which helps reduce toxic emission launched

In a step towards reducing carbon footprint, The Energy and Resource Institute (TERI) in collaboration with the Jindal Stainless, Friday launched a smokeless stainless steel stove, which ensures high reduction in toxic emissions during cooking.

The stove made up of mix of 200 and 300 series stainless steel has longer life and better corrosion resistance in an adverse village environment, a release said.

It has been designed for efficient consumption of the calorific value of the input bio fuel, thereby reducing the cooking time, the release said.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), almost two million people die globally every year due to the indoor air pollution caused by solid fuel use.

Over 60 percent of households in India depend upon biomass as fuel for cooking and women and children get regularly exposed to the health risks arising from inhaling toxic fumes released during inefficient burning of biomass fuels, it said.

Speaking at the event, L.K. Singhal, R&D head at Jindal Stainless Ltd., said: "This revolutionary stove will play a major role in ensuring a better environment for our communities."
