Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro beat France's Kristina Mladenovic in the second round of the US Open in 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
Although, the world's twenty-fourth best tennis player from Spain dominated the first set on Thursday, she lost to the French, 53rd in the WTA ranking, in the second, reports EFE news agency.
Mladenovic, who reached the US Open quarterfinals in 2015, took a medical break at the beginning of the match but still could not manage to defeat the Spanish, who had more "break" opportunities during the game.
Suarez clinched a two-game lead over the French in the final set and won the match after one hour and 47 minutes.
The Spaniard will face France's sixth-seeded Caroline Garcia in the third round, who beat Puerto Rican Monica Puig on the same day 6-2, 1-6 and 6-4.
