State-run oil marketers on Thursday raised the price of subsidised LPG, or cooking gas, by about Rs 2 per 14.2-kg cylinder, and cut the rate of non-subsidised LPG by Rs 20.5 per cylinder.

Since July, this is the third straight increase in the price of a subsidised LPG cylinder, which will now cost Rs 425.06 in Delhi as against Rs 423.09 earlier.

The move is part of the government's strategy to reduce subsidies in a phased manner by effecting a small hike in rates every month.

LPG rates were last increased by Rs 1.93 per cylinder on August 16, and previously by Rs 1.98 on July 1.

Non-subsidised LPG, which consumers buy after exhausting their subsidised quota of 12 cylinders, now costs Rs 466.50 per cylinder in Delhi, as against Rs 487 previously.

Further, the price of aviation turbine fuel (ATF), or jet fuel, was cut in Delhi by Rs 1,795.5 per kilolitre, or 3.8 per cent, to Rs 45,411.18.

Prices of ATF vary at airports in different locations owing to local taxes.

This reduction follows a 4.2 per cent cut in rates on August 1.

Meanwhile, amid fluctuation in global oil prices, state-run Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) increased prices of transport fuels effective from Thursday: of petrol by Rs 3.38 a litre and of diesel by Rs 2.67 per litre, both at Delhi, with corresponding increase in other states.
