The Railway Ministry on Wednesday appointed Padma Bhushan Bindeshwar Pathak, the founder of Sulabh International, as brand ambassador for its 'Swachh Rail Mission'.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said Pathak had boosted the cleanliness campaign of the Indian Railways by accepting the invitation to work with the ministry on the cleanliness initiatives.
"Efforts of Sulabh International are well known in the field of improving sanitation and upgradation of environment. The Railways can do wonders if people become aware of cleanliness and sanitation matters," Prabhu said.
Rajen Gohain, Minister of State for Railways, said Pathak had spread awareness among the people on cleanliness issues in the last four decades since the setting up of Sulabh International in 1970.
