Sumit Mathur, Prashant Singh shine in Daredevils Cup

Left-arm spinners Sumit Mathur (Ganga International School) and Prashant Singh (St. Sophia Senior Secondary School) became the first bowlers to claim five-wicket hauls in the second Daredevils School Cup at the Air Force Cricket Ground in Palam here Saturday.

Mathur, who played for Delhi under-16 team in the Vijay Merchant Trophy, was the toast of Ganga International's second successive victory in Group B, an eight-wicket conquest of MRV School, Dwarka. His haul of five for nine in four overs reduced MRV School from 45 for two to 79 all out.

Prashant was the architect of St Sophia's massive 169-run victory over St Mary's Public School, Dwarka. His haul of five for three in 2.2 overs ensured that his team bowled out its rival for just 24 runs. Earlier, riding on a 136-run second-wicket stand between Akshay Solanki (57, 38 balls, eight fours, one six) and skipper Ankit Gera (63, 56 balls, five fours, one six), St. Sophia posted a huge score of 193 for four in 20 overs.

The scores:

Group B: MRV School, Dwarka, 79 in 20 overs (Sumit Mathur five for nine) lost to Ganga International School 80 for two in 15 overs (Yash Vora 34 not out, Arun Dalal 31).

Group B: St Michael's Senior Secondary School 106 for eight in 20 overs (Japneet Singh 29, Naman Sagar 32 not out, Vansh Tilak two for 21, Mayank Rathi three for 23) lost to Cambridge Foundation 107 for seven in 19.5 overs (Vansh Tilak 25, Ashish Bandaliya 33, Rishabh Wasson two for 28, Sehaj Preet Singh two for 20, Mayank Bhardwaj two for 13).

Group D: Don Bosco Public School 53 in 16.5 overs (Hemanshu Choudhary two for 18, Anuj Siwash three for 12) lost to St Mary's Public School, Neb Sarai, 64 for two in 12.2 overs (Anuj Siwash 30 not out).

Group K: St Sophia Senior Secondary School 193 for four in 20 overs (Akshay Solanki 57, Ankit Gera 63, Bharat Kumar 26) beat St Mary's Public School, Dwarka, 24 in 13.2 overs (Sachin Sahni two for 4, Prashant Singh five for three).
