Super Boxing League to be organised in association with WBC, PBOI

Continuing the professional boxing boom in India, the first ever professional boxing tournament, Super Boxing League (SBL), will be organised in association with World Boxing Council and Professional Boxing Organisation India (PBOI) which is affiliated with Asian Boxing Council -- the Asian federation allied with World Boxing Council (WBC).

The first edition of SBL will be held from July 7 to August 12 here. The event, promoted by British business tycoon Bill Dosanjh and two-time world champion Amir Khan, will bring together boxers from across the globe to participate and vie for the title.

Welcoming the associations, CEO and Founder of Super Boxing League, Bill Dosanjh, said: "We are here to set an example by hosting the first ever pro boxing tournament in a way that's fitting our endeavour to deliver the best. We are delighted to have WBC and PBOI come on board."

"We are confident that with WBC's decades of expertise, SBL season 1 will set a benchmark and enthuse boxing fans in the country. Moreover, professional boxing will surely get a structure that will help PBOI to bring their best to the table," he added.

The league in its first season have a got a mix of experience and youth with bringing in eight boxers to hold the fort for their respective franchises.

Commenting on the announcement of eight captains, Promoter of Super Boxing League Amir Khan, said: "I welcome all the boxers to Super Boxing League and am confident that we can look forward to some high-octane ring action in SBL."

"The league will be a boost for professional boxing in India, with some experienced pugilists like Neeraj, Kuldeep and others while young blood like Asha, Deepak and Pawan will bring the much needed excitement with their mix of MMA and boxing experience into the ring," he added.
