After cricket, hockey, badminton and several other sports, it is time for the Indian audiences to experience the thrill of mixed martial arts (MMA) as the first season of the Super Fight League (SFL) is set to roll at the Siri Fort Sports Complex here from Friday.
The opening ceremony will feature performances from Bollywood music director duo Salim-Sulaiman who also co-own the Uttar Pradesh Nawabs team in the league.
Celebrity team owners Ajay Devgn from Mumbai Maniacs, Arjun Rampal from Delhi heroes and Randeep Hooda from Haryana Sultans are among the other celebrities, who will grace the opening ceremony.
The first fight-night will witness a clash between Rampal's Delhi Heroes and Hooda's Haryana Sultans.
The Super Fight league will consist of eight teams with two teams battling it out during each day of the weekend.
"We are extremely excited and look forward to the inaugural season of the league. This league will showcase a glimpse of how exciting Mixed Martial Arts really is," Bill Dosanjh, SFL's CEO said in a statement.
"Super Fight League has some talented Indian and international fighters on board who will fight it out till the end to secure a victory for their team. We once again thank all our team owners, partners and Sony Pictures Network for making this dream a possibility," he added.
Two-time world boxing champion and SFL co-founder Amir Khan said: "India has a lot of talent in mixed martial arts which we are going to witness this season. I am proud of the fact that with this competition we are giving young talent an opportunity to exhibit their prowess."
"India has always shown potential in combat sports and hopefully we churn out some superstars in the first season," he added.
