The Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) supplied 13 types of riveted structural assemblies and seven types of welded fuel tanks, including the critical cryogenic stage, for the Indian space agency's rocket launched successfully Sunday to inject an advanced communication satellite into orbit.

"Our aerospace division contributed significantly to the successful launch of the geosynchronous satellite launch vehicle (GSLV-D5) by integrating and delivering all the four booster rockets and the structure of the spacecraft (GSAT-14)," HAL chairman R.K. Tyagi said in a statement here Monday.

The state-run defence behemoth has been a partner of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and associated with the country's space programmes over the decades.

"Even for the recently-launched (Nov 5) Mars Orbiter Mission, we delivered seven types of assemblies and four types of fuel tanks," Tyagi said.

The GSLV was launched from the Sriharikota spaceport in Andhra Pradesh, about 80 km northeast of Chennai, carrying the 1,982 kg GSAT-14 satellite into the geostationary orbit, about 36,000km above earth.
