Myanmar's opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi on Monday urged the people to stay calm ahead of the official announcement of results of Sunday's parliamentary election.
Addressing a crowd waiting outside the National League for Democracy (NLD) headquarters in Yangon to monitor the results of the general election, Suu Kyi said her party wishes to march forward without discrimination with goodwill for all in the country, Xinhua reported.
According to incomplete results of the ongoing vote-count reported by media, Suu Kyi's NLD was leading against the ruling Union Solidarity and Development Party.
Suu Kyi, who is NLD chairperson and a parliamentarian, won in the general election securing a seat in the house of representatives.
The official election result was expected to be released by the Union Election Commission later on Monday.
The ruling USDP has fielded 1,122 candidates, while the NLD has 1,123 nominees in the running.
A total of 6,038 candidates involving 91 political parties and 310 independent aspirants fought the elections for more than 1,000 seats at three levels of parliament in the election.
