Cairo, Sep 12 (IANS/ITAR -TASS) Syria has agreed to transfer its chemical weapons to international control "in response to Russia's initiative and not over the fear of US aggressive threats", Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said Thursday.

"Damascus will pass all documents needed for the country to join the Chemical Weapons Convention in the United Nations Organisation," TV channel Rossiya 24 quoted the Syrian leader as saying.
