Leading energy producer Tata Power Solar has set up root-top solar panels at 62 sites across Gujarat with a cumulative capacity to generate 3 MW to its state-run distributors, the city-based company said Friday.

The cumulative capacity includes 1.2 MW plant for Gujarat Energy Development Agency, a 750-kilowatt (kW) plant for Surat Municipal Corporation, and 1.1 MW projects for smaller industries across the state.

"The 1.2 MW solar power project at 34 sites will generate 1.8 million units of energy. All projects were executed on turnkey basis, with the cumulative 1.1 MW of solar roof-top panels for corporates, engineering firms, pharma units, commercial complexes and the food industry," Tata Power Solar chief technology officer Arul Shanmugasundaram said in a statement here.

As a pioneering in tapping solar energy to meet the growing power needs, Gujarat has the highest installation of 1 gigawatt (GW) of solar power capacity in the country.

"All the installations have features like mounting of solar panels on industrial sheds, RCC roofs and slanting roofs," the statement said.

As the largest engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) player, the company operates 200 MW of solar module manufacturing in the city and has designed and built about 160 MW of ground-mounted and 40 MW of rooftop projects till date.

The Tata group company also offers a diverse line of solar products, including water heaters, home lighting, street lighting, power packs and water pumps for urban and rural markets.
