The Delhi High Court Thursday granted interim bail, on health grounds, to six people convicted in the 2000 Haryana teachers appointment scam.
Justice Siddharth Mridul granted bail to six convicts for six weeks on furnishing of a personal bond of Rs.25,000 each along with two sureties of like amount before the trial court.
On May 21, former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala (78), sentenced to 10 years in jail in same case, also got six weeks' interim bail for undergoing pacemaker implant surgery.
The court granted bail to Madan Lal Kalra, Krishna Gupta, Jeet Ram Khokhar, Kailash Kaushik, Kanta Sharma and Abhilash Kaur.
The court was hearing the appeals of 55 people against their convictions and varying jail terms in the case.
It also extended by six more weeks the interim bail of convict Raksha Jindal in the case.
The jail medical superintendent was also directed to file medical reports of five other convicts who have sought interim bail on health grounds.
A trial court here had sentenced Chautala, his son Ajay Chautala and eight others to 10 years in jail. One convict was sentenced to five years in jail, while 45 others were each handed out four-year jail terms.
Chautala and the other accused were found guilty of illegally recruiting 3,206 junior basic trained teachers in Haryana in 2000.
