A 16-year-old student of Class IX of a government school in east Delhi was stabbed to death on Wednesday by a group of five-six unidentified youths, police said. One of the culprits has since been arrested.
Police said Mohammad Sultan had left for his residence in Ashok Nagar from his school in New Usmanpur area around 1 p.m. when the group of youths stopped him and started beating him.
"One of them stabbed Sultan half a dozen times with a knife," a senior police officer said.
The accused escaped the spot after which the victim was taken to nearby Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Sultan lived with his family in Ashok Nagar area, and had a fight with some school students a few days ago.
Police is examining the closed-circuit television footage at nearby shops and areas to identify the accused.
