Ten lesser known AAP winners

Apart from prominent leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party which won the Delhi assembly election by a landslide Tuesday, many of the party's winners are lesser known faces coming from diverse backgrounds but with a common desire for social service. Some of them beat candidates who had been winning the seat in successive polls. The lesser known winners include:

Imran Hussain won from Ballimaran trouncing his nearest BJP rival by over 33,800 votes. Hussain has donated blood many times and has also organised blood donation camps. According to the AAP website, he has been involved in social work and has organised health camps for the aged.

Ved Parkash, who won from Bawana defeating his nearest BJP rival by over 50,000 votes, has been a social activist for the past 20 years. He was involved in the agitation for the Jan Lokpal bill. Parkash also took part in the AAP's protests on the issue of electricity and water tariffs.

Sanjeev Jha won from Burari by over 67,000 votes defeating his BJP rival. He is pursing a degree in law. Before joining AAP, he established NGO 'NavPallav' to help people who come to Delhi from other states in search of work. He has also been involved with organisations working for the welfare of the youth.

Praveen Kumar, who won from Jangpura by defeating his BJP rival by over 20,000 votes, has been involved in social work. During his college days, he taught street children. Kumar left his job with a multinational corporation to join the movement against corruption and AAP. During the 49-day AAP government, Kumar worked as Officer on Special Duty to then Education Minister Manish Sisodia.

Kapil Mishra, who won from Karawal Nagar by over 44,000 votes, has studied in Delhi University. He has worked in organisations such as Greenpeace and Amnesty International. Mishra has been part of the movement to save the Yamuna river. An associate of AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal for the past ten years, he has worked on projects to improve civic amenities.

Rituraj Jha, who won from Kirari over his BJP rival by 45,000 votes, was part of the movement for the Jan Lokpal bill. He intends to take up issues concerning youth and women's safety.

Asim Ahmed Khan won from Matia Mahal defeating his nearest Congress rival by over 26,000 votes. He has been a social worker who has worked for improving education and health activities.

Shiv Charan Goel, 53, who won from Moti Nagar by over 15,000 votes defeating his nearest BJP rival, took part in the agitation for the Jan Lokpal. He is involved with social work and has worked to spread the message of AAP in his constituency.

Kailash Gahlot, who won from Najafgarh defeating his nearest Congress rival by a narrow margin of 1555 votes, is a lawyer and runs educational institutions. He is a RTI activist and has helped people in filing the right to information queries. He also runs a free ambulance service for the needy.

Parmila Tokas won from R.K. Puram defeating her nearest BJP rival by over 19,000 votes. She has taken up women's issues and also provided financial support for sport activities in her area.
