There was tension in Ghaziabad's Loni Thursday after residents found pieces of cow flesh at about twelve places around the town, police said.
Police said the Loni residents were shocked to see the pieces of a cow and a calf in Jawali and Ristol villages. A mob gathered near the Jawali village and started shouting slogans against the local administration.
As the news reached the district headquarters at Ghaziabad, senior police and administration officials rushed to the spot. Former legislator Madan Bhaiya also reached the spot and requested the mob to calm down.
Police patrolling has been intensified in the area and senior officers deputed to monitor the situation.
"It seems a conspiracy to disturb the communal harmony in the area. Patrolling is being intensified and the conspirators would be nabbed soon," said Superintendent of Police (Rural) Jagdish Sharma.
