Tension prevailed in a part of Jammu and Kashmir's winter capital on Tuesday after some Hindu youth beat up two Muslim youth on allegations of vandalising a local temple and triggered further violence, police said.
Police said the incident occurred in Janipur area.
"Local Hindu youths beat two youths of the other community whom they blamed for smashing the window panes and doors of a local temple in Janipur area.
"After the news spread in the area, an angry mob torched a school vehicle and has now surrounded the local police station," a senior police official told IANS.
"Senior police officers have reached the spot to bring the situation under control and prevent any flaring up of the trouble by anti-social elements," the officer added.
