Tension prevailed in a village in Telangana's Medak district after a mob attacked the village sarpanch and set afire her house on Friday to avenge the killing of a youth by her supporters.
The slain youth, from Jillela in Karimnagar district, was assaulted allegedly by the sarpanch's family members and supporters on Thursday when he accidentally hit the sarpanch, Lakshmi, with his two-wheeler in Ibrahimpur village in Medak district.
Srihari (35) succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.
Enraged over this, his relatives and villagers from Jillela reached Ibrahimpur village with his body on Friday. They thrashed the sarpanch and other family members before setting fire to their house.
The blaze spread to two other houses. Two police officers were also injured in stone pelting by the mob.
The village headwoman and her family members had to take shelter in another house.
