Hyderabad-based Terra Greens founder and Director, Likitha Bhanu, on Sunday pledged to adopt 4,000 farmers across Tamil Nadu.

She made the announcement at the Centre for Sustainable Rural Development & Research Studies of the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), during second edition of the Agri Expo.

Terra Greens range of 99 organic staples products is focused on nutrition for the urban Indian.

"Our first step is helping these 4,000 farmers to achieve Organic Farming Certification and documentation and expand their prowess to grow organic rice and millets," said Likitha, a Biotechnology alumina of VIT.

"Tamil Nadu is a rare oasis of organic and sustainable agriculture and we are happy to welcome 4,000 new farmers in Terra Greens family," she added.

Terrace Greens will also give a buy-back guarantee to these farmers and train and support them in organic agricultural practices.

This effort is part of our growth strategy to increase the area under rice and millet cultivation, she added.

Terra Greens staples products have gained wide market acceptance in a number of Indian cities.

Terra Firma Projects founded by Likitha Bhanu and her mother in 2013, has a tie up with 2,000 farmers across five Indian states to procure organic produce.

The company is in talks to raise its first round of institutional funding to expand its production, distribution and new product portfolio, said a company statement.

Currently, Terra Greens has a team of 25 full-time employees, 150 daily-wage workers and 3,000 farmers.

The company has its presence in 16 states with its products available in over 300 stores.
