A woman who killed a Sikh man in Britain as she drove her car while using two mobile phones, has been jailed for six years.
Marina Usaceva, 31, was driving her Jaguar at over 110 km per hour and crashed into the car of 27-year-old Sukhdeep Singh Johal, killing him, reports the Independent.
Sentencing her to a six-year prison term, Judge Sean Enright told her: "If you were not sending texts at the time, then you were fiddling with your phone and that is what caused this collision.
"In my opinion, there is not a scrap of remorse. Mobile phone use while driving is a plague on our society," the judge added.
Prosecutor Georgina Gibbs told a British Court that Usaceva was using not one but two phones.
Usaceva insisted that she was not using a handset at the wheel before the crash. But a police examination found Usaceva had used one phone to send and receive a text message, just before the accident.
She also used another phone to send one message, make a phone call and receive three calls in the 20 minutes leading up to the crash in Cambridgeshire March 15, 2013.
"Even 60 years wouldn't be enough, but this is some kind of justice. The only thing we can hope is that others will learn from this," said Buhupinder Singh Johal, the father of the deceased man.
"People think nothing of it, but using a mobile phone while driving can kill," he added.
