'There are ways to protest without disrupting court'

Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice S.K. Kaul said Saturday that judicial work should not be hampered by lawyers asking for their demands to be met as there were other ways to do so.

Justice Kaul was addressing members of the Gurgaon Bar Association in the District Court Complex here, while inspecting the Lok Adalat organised as part of the National Lok Adalat in all courts of the country Saturday.

District and Session Judge of Gurgaon Shekher Dhawan told the chief justice that 16,787 cases had been settled by various courts of Gurgaon from Sep 1 2013 till now, including in the Lok Adalat of Saturday.

An amount of Rs.13,278,410 was said to have been recovered under the head of "compensation and fine recovery".

The chief justice also noted that the court complex, constructed in 1973, had become congested and was accommodating 40 judges, though it was originally meant for about 12 judges.
